Major 'New Moon' Casting News: Wolfpack Announced

Watch TV on PC - 12,000 TV Channels and Movies

Taylor Lautner does not hunt alone. The wolfpack has been announced!

One of the major casting decisions of the New Moon movie has made official, the movie's pr people confirm to Celebuzz.

The Native American/First Nation actors playing the pivotal wolf scenes include Chaske Spencer, Alex Meraz, Bronson Pelletier, Kiowa Gordon and Tyson Houseman.

For the most part this was a closely guarded secret by the movie producers, with the exception of Pelletier, which leaked out earlier this year.

Each member is of Native American descent. Spencer is Lakota (Sioux), Pelletier is Cree-Metis, Meraz is Purepecha (Tarasco), Gordon is Hualapai and Houseman is Cree. Houseman was one member of the pack discovered in an open casting call in Vancouver where thousands descended for a chance to make it in the movie. Many were disappointed, but Houseman clearly prevailed.

This is bad news for Robert Pattinson and his vampire pals. New Moon will focus on the werewolves after the Twilight vampire-love. And werewolves are ancestral enemies of the vampires. From the looks of the very large Meraz − who has been spotted around Vancouver wearing a black leather jacket and filling door-frames with his shoulders − it's going to be trouble. Houseman is not nearly the baddie, but from his talent-agency website he's up for "stage fighting and fencing." He might be the guy who just stays out of the way.

Bring it, vampires!

Canada's Vampiress

Watch TV on PC - 12,000 TV Channels and Movies
Rachelle Lefevre, who plays Victoria in Twilight, says she's looking forward to shooting the sequel New Moon.

Photograph by: Summit, Entertainment

Rachelle Lefevre doesn't want to sound like a walking cliche, but she really is "over the moon" these days thanks to the imminent start of New Moon, the latest instalment in Stephanie Meyer's 'tweener vampire sensation.'

Lefevre landed the role of "evil vampire Victoria" in the original Twilight, and come March 23, she'll be back on the west coast when camera goes up on the new movie's Vancouver shoot.

Lefevre likes working in her home and native land. Born and raised in Montreal as the daughter of an English teacher and psychologist, Lefevre has a long resume that includes smaller parts in U.S. and Canadian episodics, but it's her role in Twilight - which hits DVD March 21 - and the forthcoming New Moon that really set her star aflame.

Even though Victoria doesn't occupy large swaths of screen time, Lefevre says she's been enjoying the best of both worlds since she faced down Kristen Stewart's Bella Swan in a rogue baseball match.

"I don't even feel famous," Lefevre says from her home in Los Angeles. "And that's good. I feel like I'm a part of something with a huge fan base and that's entirely different. It's not about me at all. It's about the work that Stephenie Meyer created, so while I may be photographed at a Twilight party, I'm not stopped on the streets of Los Angeles."

Lefevre says she still has her own life, and her own privacy, and she's smart and wise enough to know just how valuable those intangibles are.

"The way I look at it is that I don't have to experience any of the downs that famous people have. I can hang out with my new puppy and my boyfriend, play Wii tennis, and be a real person."

Lefevre's insight into the empty vessel of fame is the result of her grounded upbringing with well-adjusted and educated parents, as well as her Canadian identity, she says.

"I'm not criticizing the States at all. But when you're raised in Canada, you're brought up with a different appreciation of difference. We have the mosaic model instead of embracing this general trend of assimilation - where people are encouraged to believe in the same things," she says.

"I was taught to be inquisitive about people and to respect their uniqueness."

When you realize everyone is different, and everyone has intrinsic social value, Lefevre says the drive for fame loses its urgency because the need to stand out from the uniform masses disappears.

The other upside of her Canadian upbringing relates directly to her craft.

Lefevre says acting demands a surrender of self, and a desire to explore the other perspectives and value systems - two ideals built right into the Canadian experience.

"I remember when we were shooting the big vampire baseball game, and I had this impulse to run my fingers down Nikki Reed's leg - like a creepy bug. I didn't do it on the first take because I thought about it too much and censored myself," says Lefevre, who actually wrote Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke a letter explaining her long-standing vampire fixation and her deep desire for the role.

"We learn to suppress negative impulses, which is good - unless you're playing an evil vampire. Victoria does not censor herself, so it's been really liberating to play a character who just says what's she's feeling."

Lefevre says she even solicited her psychologist mother for some professional advice on the symptoms of various psychoses.

"I wanted Victoria to be playful and powerful, but not a sociopath. There's no pathology to her evil. I think she's just an example of what happens when you have absolute power: It corrupts absolutely," she says.

"And let's face it: If you were more powerful than every other person on the planet, you'd start looking at everyone else as inferior beings. Victoria also sees humans as food, too, which doesn't help with the empathy."

Victoria's role gets a little heftier in New Moon as she seeks to avenge Bella Swan for the death of her lover, James, but Lefevre says it's not about the cumulative screen time. She just feels lucky to be a part of such a great project.

"I've been fascinated by vampires for a long time," says Lefevre.

Immortality and the ability to outwit death is appealing to any mere mortal, but the real attraction behind New Moon and the entire Twilight saga is epic romance, says Lefevre.

"When you're in your teens and tweens, you don't really understand all these strange feelings that you have. One year, a boy beats up on you. The next year, he gives you butterflies and you think he's cute," says Lefevre.

"Sure, (vampirism) is about sexuality, but these books help young people explore that sexuality in a safe way."

The other attraction is plain as day: "The dark side can be fascinating. And for Bella and Edward, there is no happily ever after," says Lefevre. "In that way, the series is a lot like real life."

Twilight hits DVD March 20. New Moon is tentatively slated for a November 2009 release.

Twilight Saga: New Moon's wolfpack cast additions confirmed by Summit Entertainment

Watch TV on PC - 12,000 TV Channels and Movies

As reported here, Summit Entertainment has indeed hired actors Bronson Pelletier, Chaske Spencer, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon and Tyson Houseman for the La Push gang in New Moon. Still waiting on word regarding Tinsel Korey.

Issuing the following press release just moments ago, the news is confirmed by Summit Entertainment:

Summit Entertainment announced today that Native American/First Nation actors Chaske Spencer, Bronson Pelletier, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon and Tyson Houseman have signed on to star as the members of the wolf pack in THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON. In the film, the wolf pack defends humans against vampires although they have a tribal history intricately entwined with Edward Cullen and his family. The wolf pack members will join Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and fellow wolf pack member Taylor Lautner in the film directed by Chris Weitz which will be released domestically November 20, 2009.

In THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) is devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire love, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) but her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with the irresistible Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). Suddenly she finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves, ancestral enemies of the vampires, and finds her loyalties tested.

Each member of the wolf pack is of Native decent. Spencer is Lakota (Sioux), Pelletier is Cree-Metis, Meraz is Purepecha (Tarasco), Gordon is Hualapai, and Houseman, who was discovered at an open casting call, is Cree. Casting of the wolf pack was overseen by award-winning casting director Rene Haynes who is well-known for her work on Native projects ranging from DANCES WITH WOLVES to BURY MY HEART AT WOUNDED KNEE.

The action-packed, modern day vampire love story and blockbuster success of the first film in the series entitled TWILIGHT was released in theatres on November 21, 2008 grossing $69.6 million domestically during its first weekend. To date the film has grossed nearly $380 million worldwide. TWILIGHT was released on DVD, Blu-ray and VOD this past Saturday, March 21st and sold over 3 million DVD units in its first day of release making it one of the top five best first day DVD releases over the past two years.

There is still no official word as to AnnaLynne McCord, though New Moon Movie, the fansite, is reporting that the IMDB change we brought to you before is an error on IMDB's part, and that she is not signed on, quoting AnnaLynne to say “I really wish I was in the next movie, I would love that to be true,” McCord said. “I went to the premiere, I’m obsessed and it would be cool to work with a bunch of my friends (we’re sure she probably mainly means boyfriend Kellan Lutz) but no, I won’t be in it. I’m sorry." For the full story on that, see New Moon Movies's article here.

No actress has been signed to play Heidi in Twilight New Moon

Watch TV on PC - 12,000 TV Channels and Movies

Reports of actress Annalynne McCord being signed for The Twilight Saga New Moon" are rumors. The Internet Movie Database, IMDB, removed the word "rumored" from beside her name on their website. My query into the rumor produced this statement "Summit has not signed any one to play Heidi."

Separating rumor from fact is difficult with so many fansites reporting unverified information. However that is the way Hollywood goes. Sometimes representatives of certain actors, directors etc even release such rumors themselves just to get their client attention from any media outlets.

I always verify before reporting and if that can't be done, it is reported as a rumor. Sometimes rumors are very interesting and have a place in a story, as long as they are reported as such.

What isn't rumor is the fabulous news that this last weekend's DVD release of Twilight was over 3 million DVDs sold. That is amazing. My daughter went to her local Wal-mart for the party and arrived a while before midnight. The line started in the electronics department in the back of the store, went all the way around the inside the store walls, out the front door and all the way through the parking lot across to the "Claim Jumpers" restaurant. This is a huge number of kids and their friends / families. Fun was had by all and lots of chit chat about the upcoming movies.

Summit's representative assured me that they were happy with the turn out (obviously with the sales) and that the fans will continue to be the focus of upcoming events. This is great news as it allows fans to be part of this phenomenal movie saga.

Will Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner's Twilight Saga: New Moon be rated R?

Watch TV on PC - 12,000 TV Channels and Movies

Twilight, 2008's hit book-to-film translation of Stephenie Meyer's masterpiece novel, was rated PG-13 "for some violence and a scene of sensuality." That scene of sensuality, as we know, was the ever-elusive kissing scene between Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson as Bella Swan and Edward Cullen in her bedroom.

The Twilight DVD's deleted scenes, if included, would have elevated the number of "sensual" scenes by adding one more kiss scene, a playful (but racy) scene between Edward and Bella in the woods, and a vampire lip-lock between Rachelle LeFevre and Cam Gigandet (Victoria and James).

By limiting these scenes in Twilight, the film remained rated PG-13. That "some violence" included the attack of one security guard in Mason County, the attack of Waylan (friend of Bella's father, Charlie swan), and the attack of Bella by James with Edward's subsequent rescue.

New Moon, however, if remaining true to Meyer's book, is guaranteed to contain more violence and sensuality.

For starters, fans hope that the movie starts out with a bang. No, not literally, but fans hope that Edward and Bella's relationship includes more animated lip-locking and romance. After having spent a wonderful summer together, their relationship, like in the book, should be much more touchy-feely (at first).

Jasper and Edward are set to get into a major altercation over Bella when she cuts her finger in the beginning as well. Jasper, who leers at Bella's spilled blood and threatens her safety, takes a snap at Bella, and Edward, in turn, takes a snap at him.

With the werewolves, the characters of Jacob (Taylor Lautner) and Paul (Alex Meraz) need to be ready to fight. In the book sequences, Paul morphs into his werewolf state and Jacob follows suit, commencing a brawl that the fans of the Twilight Series hope to be as vicious as described.

Next, we should see some rather-disturbing scenes from the Volturi clan as well. Jane, to be played by Dakota Fanning, is supposed to put Edward (Rob Pattinson) on his back with her sneer, and Heidi, the Volturi vixen who seduces un-aware humans into coming into the home of the Italian vampires, should bring some destruction with her as well. From Bella's viewpoint in New Moon, the book, that scene is very disturbing. For fans of the book, then, its horror should be brought to life in The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

With Bella and Edward's return from Italy, fans expect the reunion to be just as intimate and sweet as in the book. This should include the passionate kissing that we will have hopefully seen in the beginning sequences as well.

These scenes, amongst others, are among those that might heighten the so-called "violence" and "sensuality" upon which film ratings are based.

Thus, this begs the question. Twilight was rated PG-13 at the expense of several enjoyable scenes being put aside for the DVD. Would you rather see New Moon be rated PG-13 for the sake of its young adult and teenage audiences, or would you rather scenes like the above be included in the theatrical version with, potentially, an R rating?

ROLL CALL: Meet ‘New Moon’s’ Werewolf Pack

Watch TV on PC - 12,000 TV Channels and Movies

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Your Daily Dispatch of Celebrity Shenanigans

Taylor Lautner’s Wolf Entourage: “Twilight” star Taylor Lautner just got a few more allies in his fight against vampires. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Summit Entertainment has hired Chaske Spencer, Bronson Pelletier, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon and Tyson Houseman to play members of the “New Moons” Wolf Pack, who protect humans from vampires. Fans of the novels know that these actors’ lives just got really good – possibly three-future-movies good!

James Gandolfini: Stage Fright Victim?: Tough guy actor James Gandolfini is not the first actor one would think suffers from stage fright, but according to The New York Daily News’ Gatecrasher, the actor called his debut in Broadway’s “Gods of Carnage” “nerve-racking.” “But once you get the hang of it, you’re fine,” he told the Web site. “The best part is, I’m making people laugh now. And that’s a good thing.” And he said a few flubs are just part of the live experience. “I still f*** up now and again, but that’s life. I don’t get nervous now. It’s starting to become fun.”

Miley: “Please Don’t Stop The Music: Fans of Miley and her alter ego, “Hannah Montana,” can breathe a sigh of relief, the pint-sized pop star says she wants to do more of her mega-hit Disney Channel show and that her upcoming movie does not mean the end of the series. “This movie was never meant to be the end of ‘Hannah Montana,’” Miley told Billboard. “The thing is, a lot of people put where the show’s future lays in my hands – and it’s not up to me. It’s up to Disney and whether they want more episodes, and we hope that they do.” So in other words, everyone better keep his or her blonde wigs for the time being, because Miley ain’t going nowhere!

Aretha’s Inauguration Hat: The Cake!: And speaking of things far more powerful than us mere mortals, Aretha Franklin’s famous 2009 Inauguration hat – remember the one with the giant bow you could spot from the back of the crowd? It’s back and it’s edible! The singer was treated to a birthday cake in the shape of the famous hat last week during her birthday celebration in Detroit. See Aretha’s couture confection, HERE!

New Moon Movie Now Filming at Jacob’s House

Watch TV on PC - 12,000 TV Channels and Movies

200903241500.jpg We’ve got a couple of reports in that New Moon is now filming at the set for Jacob Black’s house . However, security is super-tight and no pictures have surfaced yet–VancouverVamp has this to share–

I went by Jake’s house last night to see if I could get a few pics of Bella’s truck for my collection and they were full on filming there! I got to see Taylor and Kristen standing in black rain jackets being talked to a few of the set guys and the guy who plays Billy Black (Birmingham?) walking around in a white, blue and black polar fleece with his signature hat. I couldent snap any pics because the set was guarded by POLICE!!! They blocked off all of [redacted] and part of [redacted] in [redacted] for this but seeing that the set is on the corner of the cross streets I was able to slow down to look.

Another source shares a similar story, except she didn’t see Billy Black but saw the entire wolf pack.

Synopsis for The Twilight Saga: New Moon

Watch TV on PC - 12,000 TV Channels and Movies Warning! As the screenplay has yet to be released, this synopsis is based entirely on the book "New Moon".

After Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) recovers from her run in with a vampire with a lust for the hunt and her blood, she celebrates her 18th birthday with her vampire boyfriend Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and his human-friendly "family." However, an accident during her birthday party results in Bella's blood being spilled and the newest vampire in the family, Jasper (Jackson Rathbone), finds it impossible to resist. Edward accidentally injures Bella more while saving her and then realizes that he and his family have endangered Bella's life with their very presence and so he decides that erasing his family (and himself) from her life would be the best thing for her. Edward leaves Bella with only one request: that she not put herself in danger. Completely devastated by the loss of her one true love, Bella finds friendship with Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) and also realizes that, against Edward's wishes, putting her life in danger through daredevil antics helps her get through this tough time. But this is not the only danger she is in...

After overcoming each setback that her relationship with Jacob throws at her, Bella concocts a stunt that outshines all the others. After a miscommunication, Edward is lead to believe that Bella has killed herself and makes plans to follow in her footsteps. Edward's "sister" Alice (Ashley Greene) learns of his plans and alerts Bella, realizing that she's the only one who could stop him. They begin the race against time, knowing that if they do not succeed in saving Edward's life, their lives will most certainly be at stake, too.

New Moon's Wolf Gang Can't Be Any Worse Than Twilight's Vegan Vampire Gang... Can It?

Watch TV on PC - 12,000 TV Channels and Movies

The Twilight masses flocked to the stores, teenage libidos frothing, to purchase their soft core Twilight DVDs, putting them in Dark Knight sales territory. Plus we've got word on the next movie's pretend bad boys.

The first day of Twilight DVD sales topped out at a little over 3 million, which is insane. God, these fem-vamps can seriously print their own money at this point.

Twilight is now in the upper echelon of best selling DVDs in the past few years, which includes Harry Potter and The Dark Knight. I stumbled upon one of the DVD extras, showing the "sweet vampire kiss." I have to say, this is almost better than the whimpering sexy puppy roll-around deleted scenes. Almost. The "O" face Edward gives whilst turning into a blood sucker is pretty amazing, at any rate:

Meanwhile, the news about the New Moon sequel is, move over Cullen vamps - the fake tough guys in the next flick are all werewolves. Sexy meaty werewolves, who may or may not actually be able to have sex (I don't know, I haven't read the next book yet, because... well, yeah).

But on the plus side, director Chris Weitz has decided to stick with a Native American cast - as he should, because the members of Jacob Black's tribe (Taylor Lautner) are also of Native American descent:

Spencer is Lakota (Sioux), Pelletier is Cree-Metis, Meraz is Purepecha (Tarasco), Gordon is Hualapai, and Houseman, who was discovered at an open casting call, is Cree.

So good on you, Twilight people - the rest of Hollywood should take a page from your casting choice.

Fingers crossed this pack actually contains some intimidating actors, who can make a werewolf-vampire throwdown seem menacing - because as of right now I'm pretty sure the my grandma's church choir can take the Cullens.
